A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers
“Have you ever gone just a little too far?
Lexie Banks has.
Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.
But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.”
My book buddies read this book without me in a group read while I was sleeping. Time difference sucks!! So when I woke to hundreds of notifications on our inspiring little page shouting at me to read this , well I had no choice!
- Stephanie.. “Oh yeah Abbey is funny, why do I keep picturing Abbey as Kelsey? “
- Lori.. “I was thinking the same thing Stephanie, Kelsey will love her!!”
- Georgia.. ” I thought I was going to have a heart attack at one point… Yes yes yes 5stars”
- Tracie.. “My heart just started beating regularly. The last 20% was off the charts”
Abbey turns out to be English with a dirty little mouth and sense of humour …Cheers girls! PMSL !!
When I read the synopsis for this book it immediately pulled me to it. Forbidden love and love triangles are my thing!! Lexie’s a loveable girl, I felt warmth radiating from her instantly, she’s got men issues , ones a cheat, ones her step brother and ones a deacon, “Almost priest”. Lexie’s heart is torn apart in many ways than one so when she visits Rome to study she swears to start a new chapter in her complicated book of life. This she does, but nothing is ever easy for Lexie.
Complicated seems to be her middle name and she fights with her thoughts and sexual feelings constantly. Is it love or is it lust?
Whilst in Rome she makes a lovely friendship with Abby from England, she’s a witty fun, beer drinking girl who speaks her mind . I loved her but I didn’t get enough of her, I really wanted to hear more of her one liners which had me belly laughing.
“Try not to cream your knickers right out loud”
Oh the priest was adorable, Alessandro was a hottie in a collar with a tortured past of his own, I just wanted to hug him all through the bloody book!
Trent the step brother calmed me , he was gentle, kind and always took care of her, I loved him too.. I loved his tattoo and Lexie’s matching one..
There were lots of laugh out loud moments especially in confessional, Lexie was an absolute joy to listen to. Her lack of female grooming tickled me …. I soap and shave my legs for the first time in days, all the way up and then some!
There’s tummy tightening moments throughout and I never guessed where this was going. Would they? Could they? Will they be friends or lovers?. This is about all kinds of love , for family, for friendship and for forbidden. I really got sucked into this story, it’s the kind you can sit and devour in an afternoon but the ending lacked a little substance and I was slightly deflated and it felt rushed. Saying that I’m looking forward to the continuation of certain characters lives in the next two books so I kind of understand why the author ended it the way she did.
“Passion can sometimes bring out qualities in a person that they never knew they possessed”
The next book is November 12th and I will without a doubt be reading it.
Summary: I love books that are dark and forbidden, this wasn't so much dark but forbidden in lots of areas.
